History
The Planet Hollywood Las Vegas was initially opened in 1963
as the Tally-Ho. It was presently called King's Crown in 1964.
In 1966, the King's Crown was purchased, and later than major
renovations was reopened and renamed the Aladdin Hotel. On
June 20, 2003, a corporation of Planet Hollywood and Star
wood Hotels purchased the Aladdin, which was in bankruptcy.
On April, 12, 2004, Planet Hollywood and Westgate Resorts
announced plans to attach a 52 story time share to the site.
The building will contain 800 2 bedroom suites that, while
unsold, will be obtainable to the Westin hotel. The time share
building will be linked to the existing complex at the performing
arts theater and the mall.
Negative Effects
Professor Earl Grinols of Baylor University suggests that
casinos enlarge the number of pathological gamblers in a community.
Through price/benefit analysis, Grinols concludes that in
order to have positive net economic effect, casinos would
need to employ roughly 13% of a community of 100,000 people.
