Gambling games proponents not tossing in chips on new Southland casino
Posted by adminThe newest bid to get a casino in the Southland may be down, but it’s not out, at least not in the eyes of local boosters. A revise plan that would bring a casino to the Southland along with slot machines at race tracks all through the state and other gambling games-related measures, delayed in the Illinois House on Wednesday, astonishing supporters. But they are not giving up.
Jim Garrett, president and CEO of the Chicago Southland meeting Visitors Bureau, said Thursday that the defeat overall is probably a good thing.This gives everybody a chance to catch their breath, think again it and go back on (Nov. 29) and expectantly pass it, Garrett said.
Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch and state Rep. Anthony DeLuca think the Southland may eventually have a casino. The bill was discussed for more than an hour before coming up short. Lawmakers have adjourned until Nov. 29.
DeLuca said the plan failed because of resistance from legislators with casinos in their districts. Still, DeLuca said he was expectant not convinced the casino expansion bill finally would pass.By having this economic engine coming in to the area, it will make it easier to attract other business, DeLuca said.
Garrett agreed A Southland casino would be part of an activity wrap up that would include a hotel and gathering center with a multi-use, sports complex and an indoor fitness facility, a golf course, a water park and a four-star restaurant, he said.
He does not have an exact site right now, but Welch does. Take one guess. “We will win this and bring this to Country Club Hills and we’ll share it with the south border,” Welch said.Gov. Pat Quinn, Welch said, has been careful about bring more gambling to Illinois.
I agree with him that we can’t have too many gambling tackle in Illinois, but I think the south suburbs can handle a riverboat, and I think there’s no better spot than Country Club Hills. Welch said.Anything good takes time, and this needs to be done properly,he said.There’s no question that we’ll be the leader casino in Illinois and we’ll make it the premier purpose point in Illinois.
